United Utilities Reservoir Safety Campaign Competition – Win £100 Amazon Voucher!

This year, due to Covid-19, United Utilities reservoir safety campaign is running virtually. The campaign includes a competition for young people to create a vlog or poster (or both) on the dangers of swimming in a reservoir, with two winners being awarded a £100 Amazon voucher.

The aim of the competition is to raise awareness of the potentially life-saving message about not swimming in reservoirs with young people, who are statistically more likely to enter the water.

More information about the competition can be found here: https://www.unitedutilities.com/about-us/recreation-sites/reservoir-safety/win-100-amazon-voucher/.

For more information about the dangers of swimming in reservoirs, we have devised a fun and engaging education pack for young people which can be viewed here: https://www.unitedutilities.com/about-us/recreation-sites/reservoir-safety/

RoseDay@Home 2020

Saturday 27 June 2020 will be Goostrey Rose Day.  For the first time since WW2, the traditional event has been cancelled but there will still be celebrations in our village.
The committee has adopted the tagline RoseDay@Home.  We’re encouraging residents to hang bunting as usual but also to make a banner.  Residents of New Platt Lane are already organising tea in their gardens. And Dane Sound Community Radio will broadcast a special programme via the internet between 1 and 4pm.  Please listen at www.danesound.com
The Rose Queen for 2020, Cate Clayton, will be helping with the distribution of cakes made by the team who usually organise Rose Day teas to isolated local residents.
Please enter for the competitions – bunting and banners in your garden, an arrangement of cottage garden flowers (contact Kate Hext on katehext@talktalk.net or phone 07818425839), a pin cushion or a lego robot.  Details are on the poster attached to this email and entries should be made via a special Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Community/Goostrey-Rose-Day-Competitions-2020-101494128262767/ Winners will be announced on Dane Sound Radio.

In addition Goostrey Parish Archive group have created a family walking treasure hunt between The Red Lion and The Trading Post.  There are 20 questions plus interesting facts about our village.  Entry forms are available between 18 and 28 June from Goostrey News or by emailing s.smallwood@btinternet.com.  I’ve attached a poster to this email.
Details of other events on 27th June will be advertised via the LoveGoostrey website
Also, as the special Dane Sound radio programme starts at 1pm, this year’s Rosebud Queen, Rose Worsley, will follow a group of vintage tractors through the village.  The ‘procession’ will start at Booth Bed Lane and go to the Red Lion.  Rose will also place a bouquet of garden flowers (in keeping with the RD@Home theme) on the war memorial at the church.
Thanks for your support for this important celebration in our village.  It is much appreciated.
Chris Burgess, chair Goostrey Rose Day Committee

YOUR RUBBISH YOUR RESPONSIBILITY – You Could Be Fined If You Use an Unlicensed Waste Skip Carrier or Operator!

YOUR RUBBISH YOUR RESPONSIBILITYYou Could Be Fined If You Use an Unlicensed Waste Skip Carrier or Operator!

There are no RUBBISH EXCUSES

How to check for legitimate waste skip carriers/operators:

There is an unlicensed waste site operating in the Goostrey area, if you’re looking to have waste removed from your property or business, a legitimate waste skip carrier/operator will always:

  • Be registered with the Environment Agency and have a waste skip carrier licence which can be verified on the Environment Agency website at https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/search-waste-carriers-brokers
  • Provide a waste transfer note for removal of any waste on request (for example: following building or garden work)
  • Provide details of the site license where the waste is to be recycled/disposed which can be verified on the Environment Agency website at https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/search-waste-operations (you can check the list of operators by authority ie Cheshire East or Cheshire West, which is easier if you don’t have a specific name or location)
  • Be able to provide proof of where it was taken in the form of an official weight ticket which will identify the disposal site

NOTE: There are no licensed Waste Disposal or Recycling Sites in Goostrey or Holmes Chapel!

Always follow the SCRAP code

Suspect all waste carriers. Don’t let them take your rubbish until they provide proof of registration with the Environment Agency. Note their vehicle’s registration plate.

Check that a waste carrier is registered on the Environment Agency’s website at https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/search-waste-carriers-brokers or call them on 03708 506 506.

Refuse any unexpected offers to have your rubbish taken away.

Ask how your rubbish will be disposed of – seek evidence of this.

Paperwork must be obtained: a proper invoice, waste transfer note or receipt, including a description of the waste being removed and the waste carrier’s contact details.
